Third release and debut EP as Holy Strays on Demand Vinyl (SIC) / Beggars Publishing in 2013:
"Following singles on Not Not Fun and Morning Ritual, the 'Chasm' EP, released through Something in Construction's Demand Vinyl imprint, is Sébastien Forrester most substantial piece of work to date. Written on the west coast of France and recorded in Paris in winter 2013, the songs echo the bipolar environment they were created in. Holy Strays’ own vocals are sampled amid clouds of gospel ghosts, chased by breathless drumming and dancing percussion. The EP’s tracks feel cohesive and welcoming, offering oceans of space, set with intricate orchid melodies and warm realms of bass.
On the Chasm EP, Holy Strays has drawn on his own field recordings, traditional gospel music, sacred chants, early Morricone soundtracks and contemporary electronics to conjure up his own world and musical vocabulary - folklore being a constant object of study and one of the producer’s recurring obsessions.
Holy Strays, aka 23-year old Sébastien Forrester, lives in Paris but grew up in Gabon, Texas and the Caribbean - different backgrounds that helped forge his musical identity. Acquired during his early years in Africa, his passion for percussion has been a constant. Forrester grew up playing drums in various jazz and fusion projects along to Coleman and Coltrane recordings. His musical inclinations stretch from early Swans to Mahalia Jackson and Rhythm & Sound."
