'Renowned techno-rap producer Brodinski and percussionist and sound artist Sébastien Forrester team up for a highly detonative debut EP, following an ambient first transmission called 'Slabs' as part of the YOUTH label's 'Sports 2' compilation last March. Made over email while trapped indoors throughout the first lockdown in Paris, 'Swap 1' is a deep, propulsive collision of sounds and vibrations between two Paris-based artists eager to explore fresh musical areas and craft a common vision of electronic freakiness.
'Swap 1' is a land of contrasts, peaks and abysses, built around the idea of diffraction. Fusing Brodinski's eminently singular approach to trap with Sébastien Forrester's raw, percussive take on club music, 'Swap 1' delivers four volcanic, raging yet always danceable, moshpit-friendly sonic vignettes.
'766 Three Houses' opens up the whole with hellish, constantly morphing vocal chops, uncanny synth residues and demonic tom rolls for a real crunching effect. Intersecting a half-step rap beat and a gqom-infused riddim, 'Sleep Halo' appears like a real dancefloor mutant, equally industrial, cavernous and playful - its shrill bursts of white noise seem to battle the pummeling kicks to occasionally reach the surface. 'Thunder' is the slowest, murkiest one of the bunch, yet it ends up as a frenetic cacophonous magma of pounding live drum recordings, ear-piercing screams and rattling subs. 'MMB' probably best displays the two producers' will to weave their respective conceptions of electronic production: Brodinski sculpts a monstrously heavy, crackling trap beat while Forrester provides an unyielding battle drums polyrhythm to the track, burying the trancey keyboard motif under tons of distorted lava.'
