Starting from February 2018, I chose to engage in a series of new experiments with dance music.

The 'Waylay' EP is the first installment, self-released through my own imprint Afraa Productions: crafted in central Paris between February and April, it tries to capture the high-paced dimension of city life and the overabundance of noises and information. Heavily impressed by the Parisian club culture and the fascinating blend of ghetto bass, French rap and African electronic music such as logobi and gqom, I aimed at refining my sound, drawing on a tighter, more synthetic sound palette and focusing on repetition more than ever before.

Last winter, together with AmZo aka Amaury Ranger (multi-instrumentalist and programer, known for his contributions to Frànçois & the Atlas Mountains, Babes and Archipel, founder of Coconut Music Festival), I co-founded the Gqomunion parties, meant to give Durban-based gqom producers the occasion to come and perform in Paris. Within a few months, the Gqomunion crew managed to invite DJ Lag, the Rudeboyz, Griffit Vigo and Nan Kolè. Gqom was a major discovery and a turning point in my relationship with dance and trance and one of the reasons why I spontaneously got closer to the club.
